Spring- I know you are just around the corner-today was close to 80 and tomorrow is going to be 50.....So, I know you are confused-but tomorrow is March 1st-so you can go ahead and make your debut!! I am ready for a change of my wardrobe and love wearing dresses. I need pieces that are easy to pack-and with my travel schedule-I need easy pieces that I can wear for work and for play.... My mother dearest is getting ready to start a part time job at her local Lilly store-you can guess that I am super excited!!!

Haven't worn any off the shoulder items yet.....love the look, but looks like it requires a strapless bra and I don't do those....so will have to admire from a far!

love this with a pair of white jeans.....and a pair of large earrings!

Adore this bag....looks a little large for my every day use-but maybe for a weekend bag!

I know a little miss...that would love this off the shoulder number!

Made a stop off at the J. Crew Clearance Center yesterday and found some fun spring things.

Love this crisp white shirt!

I have this dress in the crazy olive color, which I would never order, but love the dress so much and how it fits-that I am going to work with it.

Thinking turquoise jewerly may spice it up!

Not sure which shoes...

Just can't wait until it is warm enough to wear it!!!

Fun Estate Sale Find

I purchased this club chair and ottoman at an estate sale yesterday.

It is a lee chair in excellent condition-just needs a fresh new fabric.

I love the tufted back.

As you can see, the fabric is nothing that I am interested in, so

I also picked up this beautiful, chinese toile fabric.

I am going to cover the ottoman in the same fabric and

will either cord it in the coral color

(if I can find a fabric that matches) or pick out a cording.

Would love any ideas.

The chair also came with a pillow, so I will cover

that in a coordinating fabric.

I love little projects like this!!

The homeowner was a decorator, so she had lovely fabrics and fine furnishings.

I love estate sales and wish there were more in my city.

What treasures you can find.

I would much rather purchase furniture, artwork and accessories

from an antique store, estate sale or even a

good ol' yard sale, then off the floor at a furniture store.

I hope to get it reupholstered in the next couple of weeks-will post picture.

I just ordered this from Bloomingdale's. Love the print and style, however it is navy blue, which I usually don't wear. Not because, I don't like it, but always leaves me with a shoe dilema. ( I am thinking of gold ballets for spring and my bone colored jack rogers for summer)

Also, wondering just how short it is going to be. I ordered a small and medium hoping at least one will fit. I don't mind showing a little leg as long as it is tan, but with all of the snow we have been getting-it is hard to imagine summer or even warm weather.

Has anyone else found any cute new spring items?? If so, please share.

Lighting Choices...

This store happens to be in Richmond, so I have been shopping there for years and it is the place for all of your lighting.

Everything and anything you could want.

Love this bamboo tower chandelier with or without shades.

This yellow is bright, fun and would be great for an all white kitchen.

This green would work with so many accent colors.

Since, I love the bambo chair in the previous post, I would have to use either the chair or the chandelier, but not both.
Love the look of mixing finishes, designs and colors.

Wow-like this clean look and would be perfect for a beach house with any color shades.

This look has been around for years, but is timeless and can be used with many decors.

This would not work for my house, but loved the authencity of the look and the size.

Always like the look of a latern.

The pagoda latern comes in two different finishes distressed green or red.

Would have to be used for a smaller space.

New Look! Seaside Pendant, a more modern look, but it would work!

For a clean, simple look...

New Kitchen Furniture??

It all started with this chair! I love it and what fun it will be to pick a fabric for the seat cushion.

Comes in many different colors.

Black, antique white, chocolate, olive and silver.

Not sure what kind of kitchen table that I would like. I have always had a rectangle table, so a round one would be a nice change. I have always wanted a pine table, will have to see what I can find.

Love the look of casual wicker chairs, but this arrangement is a little too dark, I would mix in another stain to liven things up, but do like to mix of chairs and a bench.

This picture looks like you could sit in that corner all day with a book or laptop!

Also, like this idea for a chair. Red would be a fun color to work with.

This is a lovely picture, but too formal and modern for my taste...

I have always loved decorating and get lost on-line and in decorating magazines. So many ideas and styles and if I was given a blank slate-don't even know where I would begin, so I just enjoy looking...

This design above would look great in a girl's room or guest room with crisp white accents!

How pretty would this blue and brown be in an all white kitchen with

marble countertops and bambo accents.

Blue and Brown Damask paper with panels would be beautiful for a dining room..

This color combination has been around for a while, but do love this piece.

The latern chandelier adds a nice touch.. I have a red and white bedroom similar to this and love it!

This blue and white is timeless, girly and masculine at the same time..

I just added this to this post. The tory burch shoe above is the shoe that I really want. Haven't worn the ones below. Just trying to justify spending for the above shoe. Maybe I will add to my Christmas list.

Was in Richmond last weekend and also picked up this top along with my bag. I wouldn't normally pick something like this out, but really like it. I of course, wear a cardigan over it. I don't show my arms (comes from years of swimming and having big shoulders) The top is racer back and that is another reason to wear a sweater over it. That would require me to buy a bra specifically for this shirt and that is not going to happen!

Heading to Raleigh this weekend to visit college friends and I will have to stop at all of the wonderful shopping establishments that Raleigh has to offer. (Southpark, North Hills, Cameron Village) just to name a few!

I had a hard time deciding on a color but went with the seafoam blue which is the color above. Loved the orange, but it is sold out! The bag is by JPK Paris. I have never heard of this designer-but what do I know. I am just happy with something new to carry on my shoulder-the little things in life!

J. Crew and where have I been!

I was in Lynchburg last week and was able to stop by J.Crew. I picked up this shirt and another one in silver. I love the collar, not so crazy about it being sleeveless, but love it with a cardigan.

If only spring will get here. I am over the snow and rain.

I have also been very busy with To Bee Named-thanks to all of my customers!

I also have a new job that I love. I am selling eyeglass frames to optometrists. It is fun and stylish and people always need glasses. I have name brands that I also enjoy wearing. The only negative so far is my territory. I have all of Southwest Virginia and parts on West Virginia. I do get to stay in a hotel by myself which is like a mini vacation.

Next week, I head to the Big Apple for a conference-I am super excited about that. Yummy food and lots of hours of working in a booth!

Here is my mantle and a picture of my little ones. Each year when the children were 3-I had a pastel done of them. A Christmas gift from my parents. I have decided to hang them above my mantle. I love them side by side and will cherish them forever. My master/grand plan is to have an oil done of them together that my husband and I will keep and children can take their pastels with them when they get older and have a place of their own. The artist is Christy Talbott. She is wonderful and I highly recommend her. She has children of her own-so she gets "it" and knows how stressful having a portrait done is. She has a studio in Richmond, Virginia that is fun to visit and see her one of a kind pieces. I could of purchased many more things. Sorry for not posting for a while. December was busy with napkins (thank you customers) and getting ready for Santa to come visit. This year was so fun with the kids. Miss Priss is now 3.5 and Mr. 6 is 6.5 and I wish I could stop time. I look at my peeps each day and think of how big they are now and I know it is going to go by faster each year.

Well, something that has helped me get by this holiday season are B-12 vitamins. I felt very sluggish this fall and had my thyroid checked and that was fine, so the Dr. suggested B-12 vitamins. I take one a day in the am and it works wonders. So, if you need a little boost-give them a try. I purchased mine at GNC.

Elf on the Shelf

I just purchased this for my children. I am hoping it will work and help with their behavior. (not that it is super bad-but a little reinforcement can never hurt) I am really excited about this cute story. I am going to introduce it right before Thanksgiving.

It is not unlike me to start talking about Santa watching you in August or September. I always loved the idea of Santa and was so disappointed as a child when I figured it out. Has anyone purchased this and had great luck??

Winter Shoes

I am a naturally cold person, so what shoes to wear in the winter is always a dilemma for me.

If I had my choice, I would wear flats with no socks, but my feet would freeze. So, please help!

Is there a shoe out there that I don't know about.

I have a pair of danskos and have had them since they came out, so I am over them.

I have black boots, but can't wear them everyday. A friend suggested clogs from Hannah Anderson. What do you wear??

I haven't posted in a while, b/c I am addicted to Facebook. (OK- I have just admitted it) I know I should of never joined. I have found friends from elementary school that I haven't seen in 20 years. I went to a different high school and lost touch with all of those people and I am so excited to find them again. The way my last name is spelled (my maiden and last name are connected), not by choice, but I can't seem to change it. So, no one can find me-which is kind of nice. Although, a guy that I kind of dated and took to one of my college dances, just found me and I had totally forgotten about him??? He found me on another persons page. So random! Here is what I have been doing-

Not working much-the economy totally doesn't help my job. Gift stores are not buying-b/c they are worried about Christmas. I hate to tell them, that Christmas will go on-no matter what, so you better have inventory. They say-we will meet with you in Atlanta in Jan. We will see-if I am around then!! Can you tell I am a little bitter. I love this job, but not when I am not making money.

High School Reunion-Hubby just had his 20th and it was a blast. He went to a private school with about 100 in his class. 35 with spouses were there, so not a bad turnout. I have to say he and his friends all had mullets. Yes-you read that correctly. We are talking about Southern Virgina (the sticks) in the late 80's. It was rather comical. We all wore name tags with a picture of the person that went to the school and the mullets were all around and of course, the girls had big hair!! ***I just tried to find a picture of a mullet on google and they were all so bad. his class was no where near that extreme. I am talking about a little longer in the back, but still a mullet in my book.

Getting ready to participate in a couple of gift shows. One in my neighborhood, that my friend and I organize. The other show is in Burlington, North Carolina. I get to pair that with seeing my college friends in Raleigh. Fun times.

So, I will try to be better and post. Busy times are here until Christmas!

We are not going to Long Beach in the fall. When I was doing some research on line, I wasn't finding many great things about Long Beach. They only have one boutique hotel and not the best chain hotels, so I was a little hesitant, based on those facts. Well, hubby asked his friend, who travels all over and this is what he said about Long Beach. "Long Beach is to California as Newark is to New Jersey", so with that said-that would be a no go. We have both been to Newark and don't need to travel cross country for that.

Fall Trip

I need all of my reader's help. Hubby has a business meeting this fall in Long Beach, California. I am hoping to go with him. We have never been there. The only two places that I have been in California are San Francisco and Marina Del Ray. We will be there a couple of days. He will be in meetings some, but we will have some free time. I of course, will have nothing but free time. I can't even imagine sleeping in, reading books, exercising all when I want to.

Can you suggest hotels, restaurants, shopping etc. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Happy Housewife recently posted on a new chest for her entryway. I have also been looking for a chest for the top of my stairs. I currently have a skirted table at the top of my stairs, but would love something different. My dining room table, chairs and buffet are from Hickory Chair. I am always trying to improve my site or better yet-stay on top of things. I would hate to hear that a customer goes to my site and doesn't know where to begin, so I am going to often highlight items on my blog that will make a great gift or which color font will look the best. Even though it has been super hot this week, I am anxious for the change of the wardrobe. I have been to a couple of kids clothing shows in the past weeks and this is what I found.

I have been hosting Just Ducky all weekend. I am always last to place my order -only because I am sick of looking at the clothes and by the time it is my turn to place an order-I can't wait to ship the clothes away. I have to say that Miss Priss has had a big time trying on all the samples and feels rather threatened when someone else comes to the house and even looks at it. She thinks all of the clothes are for her.

Cocktail Party

Here is a picture of my living room with my new coffee table and the french doors leading out to the deck.

This is my screened in porch with the beverage table and of course, napkins from To Bee Named. On some of the napkins, I printed our last name on the other napkins I printed our house number down in the corner. ( i didn't realize my table cover was wrinkled-oops)

The cocktail party went well. The weather was perfect and everyone was able to enjoy the outdoors. We have a screened in porch off of our living room that connects to our deck, we open the french doors and it works well. I had two items catered-shrimp wrapped in snow peas in a secret sauce and sweet potato biscuits with ham and chutney. I don't eat meat, so I didn't try either one, but it got rave reviews. Several other couples in the cocktail club each brought a dish and they brought some good ones. Thanks to all. Here are some pics of my house-before everyone arrived.

Itch, Itch, Scratch, Scratch

This is what I have been doing for the last three days-itching and scratching. I am allergic to poison ivy and haven't had it for years, but now it is all over. I was pulling the last weed before the party and walked right into it. It is on my face, behind my ear, my leg, my hip and on my neck. So fun and nothing looks better than calamine lotion all over your face. I worked yesterday and got quite a few stares. I am trying to stay strong and not itch it, but what a pain. Hopefully, it will go away soon!

The party went well. I will post on it later. One week until school starts-yippee!

Random Posting/Growing up!

I am sitting at my computer-listening to my iPod that I just got ( i know i am way behind the times). I haven't even been to itunes yet, b/c I don't need any thing else to take up my limited time. I also need to jump on Facebook, but then again -something that I will be addicted to and right now time is not on my side. Planning for the party, trying to get the house up to speed. How fast things get piled up and not put in the proper place. Hubby and I are cleaning out the garage tomorrow (very exciting), not that our party will be in the garage, but why not when the rest of the house will be clean.
The songs on my ipod right now are songs that my brother in law and sister in law shared with us. Pretty good mix and something to start with, but need to download my own selection.
I am listening to I'm Yours by Jason Mraz. Love the song by the way. Well, Jason Mraz and I grew up together. He was a couple of years younger than me, closer to my brother's age, but I definitely remember him. His sister Candace was one year younger than me. He was so cute and is a young man now and looks the same as he did back in school. Someone asked what I remember about him and it was that he was very talented and always in a play or musical at school. Well, you are wondering why I am writing about him(he probably won't remember me), but anyway, this makes me feel old. I am so glad he is so successful and traveling all over the world. Congrats! Do you have anyone that you grew up with that is now famous??
I have one more that I will post on later. She is an actress.

Martha Update!

Ok-I just found out if my napkins are chosen it will be for the Winter 2009 issue, so we may have a while to wait. I will keep you posted.

We have been traveling lots, so I am behind on blogging, napkins and everything else at my house. We are hosting a cocktail party here in 2 weeks-thanks to happy housewife for printing those for me. Now, I just have to get my menu, call the caterer and bartender and make sure my cleaning lady is close by. I have learned and thank goodness hubby as also, that it makes the party so much easier with a little help from all of the above.

We attended a funeral for hubby's cousin this week. Tony Milin was 27 years old graduated from Duke and had just received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis. He died of brain cancer. So sad and he was a son that you would wish for your own. Tony was handsome, smart, caring, loved his family, talented (played many instruments), fluent in many languages, and I could go on forever. He will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.

I still need to share my experience of my first Atlanta gift mart. I think it has taken me a while to get over it. (flight cancelled and I had to rent and drive a car in the pouring rain for 8 hours). I am still a little bitter over the whole thing. I did eat at some great restaurants-that I will mention later.

No, not Martha but an assistant from her office called me today. I was working at home and usually don't answer the phone, but I recognized the 212 area code as a NYC area code, so I picked up. She was calling from Martha Stewart Weddings and found my website. She is interested in one of the napkins that I carry on my site. She wants to use the napkin for a color palette story in an upcoming issue!! So wish me luck and if I am featured in the magazine they will send me an issue. What a way to spice up my day!

Hubby and I lived in St. Louis for a year, before we had children. It was great to be in a big city and fun to make new friends. I was a member of the Jr. League when I was there and that was the best Jr. League headquarters that I have been to. It has a restaurant and it is large enough to hold weddings, parties etc. If you ever have thought about joining the Jr. League and you are moving to a new city-this is the best way to meet new people with similar interests as you. I highly recommend it.

I purchased this cookbook, which is one of my favorites. It is very easy to use with yummy recipes. We went to a pool party last week and I was in charge of bringing a vegetable that adults and children could enjoy. So, I made this. It was easy and enjoyed by all. ( I didn't say it was low fat-you could def. use low fat sour cream)

Crunchy Potato Casserole
2 pds. frozen hash brown potatoes
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 (10 oz.) can cream of chicken soup
10 oz. mild cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
2 cups sour cream

Topping-
2 cups crushed cornflakes
1/4 cup (1/2) stick butter, melted

Combine potatoes, onion, salt, pepper, soup, cheese, butter and sour cream in a large bowl and mix well. Pat into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Bake covered with foil at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
For the topping, mix the cornflakes and butter in bowl. Spoon over the potato mixture. Bake, uncovered for 25 minutes.

A friend just dropped off these three books for me to read. I love reading and definitely have more time in the summer with road trips or while relaxing on the beach.(yeah right-a couple of more years until that happens) I guess my favorite time to read is right before bed time and books that are fun and light hearted. Oil & Vinegar

Saturday on the drive back from Richmond, we stopped in Charlottesville for lunch and walked in this store Oil and Vinegar. I have never been to one and there are only a handful in the U.S. It was such a fun and neat place. Lots of sampling and so many neat spices, sauces, oils, crackers and many things to try. Of course Miss Priss and Mr. 6 wanted to put their chubby (grubby) little fingers in anything they could. We purchased the Cajun Spice Seasoning. Perfect for dips with mayonnaise and sour cream (so low fat-ha ha), for grilling, or to spice potatoes. Definitely, a place to stop in if you ever have a chance.

We just got back from a short trip to here with the swim team. It was a great group of moms (some dads) and children. It was just Mr. 6 and me. Miss Priss was with my Mom-she has been told she has to be 4 to attend, so next year she will be in tow. It was a quick trip , because I can only walk around in my bathing suit for so long!

We then headed to Richmond to take my mom out to dinner for a big birthday she is celebrating! We took her here.It was yummy and a great place to celebrate a special occasion. Hubby and I had not been there in several years. I forgot how delicious the cream corm is!

We had a great 4th of July on the water and visiting with family. If only I had time to do some shopping, as it looked like every store we drove by in Richmond was having a big sale. I have many favorite shopping destinations, but one is J. McLaughlin. The first store that I went to was in New York city several years ago and now Richmond has one. We stopped by for ice cream on Friday night right next to J. McLaughlin and I got to do some window shopping. Looked like lots of cute things and many things on sale, so maybe next time I am in Richmond-I will get to stop by.

It has been busy around here. Miss Priss had her last day of school today and celebrated her birthday with a little dunkin donuts for her friends. Her birthday is next week and she will be 3!! I can't believe it. I am in the midst of planning her birthday party which is on Friday and Mr. 5 almost 6's birthday party in two weeks. Both parties are joint parties with their friends. It is so nice to share the planning and the children love celebrating with their friends!

I have to say that I had a great Mother's Day. I had low expectations and was fine with just sleeping in-like I requested. I slept until 11:00am. It guess my body was telling me that I needed to catch up on some sleep. Then, a group of girls(mothers) went to see Made of Honor-which was so cute and a great way to spend a rainy Mother's Day. I had my large diet coke and big popcorn and I was happy! After the movies, hubby surprised me with a pair of Jack Rogers. I have always looked at these, but never purchased and I was so impressed that he knew what they were and better yet-where to buy them. He purchased them at this cute little shoe store . I asked him, how he even knew about this store and he said he saw a commercial on TV. I was very impressed and happy. It was a great mother's day!

My new job is dangerous. I get to go to the J.Crew clearance center -way too often! Here is what I found today. I purchased a pair for myself and two extra pairs to sell on eBay. I do sell on eBay occasionally, (usually the children's clothes), but in this case I thought these would be popular, since they are on back order until mid June. New Find!

Hubby and I have only recently started purchasing art. Now, that I have a couple of pieces, I want more (imagine that). I found this piece at a local art gallery. I love this piece, because the trees are a color that works with my decor. If I put it in my bedroom (red and white ) the trees look red or if I out it in my living room (where it is currently hanging),the trees look more pinkish. I have had trouble finding art for my pink and green living room. I surprised Hubby with it when he arrived home from his weekend away. I had fun rearranging my living room (which I do often) and hanging pieces in different places.

Cocktail Club Invites!

Today, Miss Priss and I stopped by a favorite store of mine to look for "things" to go on my mantel, above the piece of art that I purchased this weekend. I was foot loose and fancy free this weekend. Hubby took the children to my in laws and I was alone in my house all by myself for three nights! Yes, you read correctly-the first time in 4 years! I loved every minute of it. I missed the children of course, but wow-I was great to have a break. Hubby was also having fun on his annual guy's trip to the Outer Banks for golf. So, it was a win/win for everyone.

I will post a picutue of the art soon. I love it and just wanted to treat myself. I did pick up these invitations today for the 3rd birthday of Miss Priss which will be here soon and also invites for cocktail club that we will be hosting in August!

Preppy Toile Table

Here is my new table skirt for my family room. I love the way it turned out. I just realized that I have toile in three rooms in my house, I have it in my family room, two chairs in my living room and in my guest bedroom. It is all differnt colors and patterns of toile. In the family room, I have a green sofa, so that is why addded the green ruffle to the bottom. It is amazing that one little thing in a room can change everything. Now, to the bathroom. I will post pictures soon!

Where have I been!

I am not sure where I have been, just trying to manage working and raising the two little ones. Time is flying by and I am loving my job. Yesterday, I drove to Meadows of Dan, Virginia. I had never heard of it and would probably never been there, but made the drive yesterday. It is off of the Blue Ridge Parkway and close to Mabry Mill -which is the most photographed Mill on the parkway. It reminded me of the movie-Bridges of Madison County. It was very nice and scenic, but way too remote for me. The drive was so crazy and I had goats and turkeys running out in front of me!!! It made me appreciate my small city that I call home.

I have a new table skirt in my family room, that is really cute and I will share a picture soon!
The master bath is getting painted chocolate brown tomorrow. I haven't picked a color yet and I am going to make a fast decision tomorrow am, because I have agonized over it too long and I can't pick a color. Thanks for all of the recommendations, but I am trying to match a fabric and that is the problem. I will keep you posted. Thank goodness for the warm weather and sunny days that we have had this week. I am ready for the sun to stay out and to pack the sweaters and jackets away!

I am in the midst of updating my master bathroom. it is relatively new bathroom and so we are just updating right now, instead of a toal rennovation. Removing more Hollywood lights, big flat mirrors and wallpaper with a border that I have lived with for almost 4 years. I am really getting out of my decorating comfort zone and painting the walls a chocolate brown. I always like neutrals, but don't have the first neutral wall in my house. So, this will be the first. I have two big gold mirrors that I am going to hang and need a great chocolate brown to paint the walls. Does anyone have a great chocolate brown paint they would like to recommend? I appreciate your suggestions.
